Tall Grass Prairie Summer Student

Tall Grass Prairie Summer Student for the Manitoba Tall Grass Prairie Preserve, located near Gardenton, Manitoba.

8 hours/day; $16.55/hour; field accommodations available

Green Team requirements: Applicants must be 16 – 29 years of age, a resident of Manitoba and eligible to work in Canada.

Assist staff with:

• monitoring endangered and other rare species
• setting up vegetation plots and recording data
• banding small song birds for an international monitoring project
• managing non-native species
• mapping locations using a handheld GPS unit
• entering data into computer (MW Word and Excel)

 

Qualifications:

• must possess a valid driver’s licence
• must possess an insured vehicle for daily use on the job (mileage reimbursement for work use)
• must have ability to work outdoors

 

Qualities:

• familiar with legal land description
• familiar with use of handheld GPS units
• ability to interpret aerial photographs
• familiar with plant identification methods
• knowledge of general ecological principles
