Public Works Employee

The R.M. of Stuartburn invites applications for an indeterminate full-time public works employee position.

Job Type: Public Works – Landfill Assistant / General Labourer
Closing Date: April 16th, 2025 or until a suitable candidate is hired
Wages: $15.80 – $20.00/hr dependent on qualifications

The Position:
Reporting to the Manager of Public Works, the successful applicant will be mostly involved with working outdoors and independently as a landfill assistant with general labourer duties.

 

Responsibilities/Duties: (detailed job description to be provided to successful candidate)
❖Maintain landfill attendant building, landfill site and drop off areas
❖Direct public where to deposit refuse, recycling and other materials
❖Screen incoming waste loads for unacceptable material
❖Responsible for maintenance of burn pits
❖Separate recyclable materials in separate compounds (Scrap, Chemical, Tires etc…)
❖Coordinate pickups by recycling and transfer station haulers
❖Ensures all environmental regulations are followed
❖Proper maintenance of equipment
❖Maintain reporting of culvert inventory
❖General road maintenance including grass cutting, tree pruning, flagging roads, repair and replacement of road signs
❖Operate the skidsteer with various attachments for various jobs on a casual as needed basis

 

Conditions of Employment:
❖Must possess a valid full Manitoba class 5 Driver’s license
❖A criminal record and vulnerable sector check will be required from the successful candidate
❖Must be willing to work rotational Saturdays
❖As most work is to be done outdoors, the operator must be able to work in all kinds of climatic conditions

 

Qualifications/Skills:
❖Working knowledge of transfer station operations and safety requirements including the ability to accurately screen incoming wastes
❖Familiar with legal land descriptions and map navigation
❖Knowledge of the operation, care and maintenance of tools and equipment considered an asset for the position, including basic mechanics
❖Excellent interpersonal skills, approachable, resourceful, self-motivated, able to work independently under minimal supervision and communicate clearly
❖Strong organizational skills
❖Ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors and regulatory agencies
❖Ability to operate and maneuver truck, trailer and skidsteer considered an asset
