Description of duties: The primary role of a Museum Guide is to be onsite to welcome visitors to the Sprague & District Historical Museum during hours of operation, from 1-5 pm on Saturday and Sunday, June through early September. Volunteers may choose their hours and level of involvement. Some guides work just one day all summer, some spend both days on a single weekend, others will commit to more than one day or weekend. All commitments are valued.
At its most basic, volunteers monitor the site during visiting hours, but volunteers are more than welcomed to provide interpretative services to Museum visitors through guided tours. For those wanting to get more involved, there is also the opportunity to research, plan and implement workshops, or special events such as family programs, student outreach, exhibit openings, adult activities, community events and musical concerts.
Skills/experience requirements: No experience is required. If you are outgoing and like to meet new people, this is a great opportunity for you. A genuine curiosity and appreciation of the diverse history of the region would be an asset. Orientation on the contents of the museum and major exhibits will be provided by seasoned volunteers.
