RMs of Piney and Stuartburn enjoyed increased development in 2020
February 17, 2021 (Vassar/Vita, Manitoba) – The year-end tally of building permits is in and the numbers confirm that the RMs of Piney and Stuartburn have seen very positive growth in 2020.
The RM of Stuartburn issued 36 building permits in 2020, compared to 29 in 2019 – a 24 per cent increase. Even more encouraging, the average estimated value per permit has increased from just over $38,000 in 2019 to over $53,000 in 2020 – a 40 per cent increase.
“More of our growth this year has been from residents building homes and cabins,” explains RM of Stuartburn Reeve David Kiansky. “As a bedroom community of Steinbach, people get small-town atmosphere, all the local amenities and recreational opportunities, and reasonable commutes from the Vita area to Steinbach,” continued Kiansky. “That’s appealing to people.”
The RM of Piney has experienced a record year with 56 permits issued during 2020, compared to 32 in 2019 – a 75 per cent increase. Estimated permit values have gone up slightly from just over $54,000 in 2019 to just over $55,000 in 2020. With brisk land sales this past year, the RM expects that will translate into another busy year in 2021.
“Here in the RM of Piney, we’ve been blessed with provincial forests perfect for outdoor pursuits in every season, and that’s what draws so many new residents to our area,” says Wayne Anderson, Reeve of RM of Piney. “But we’re still an easy drive from Steinbach or Winnipeg.”
