December 2023 Economic Development Update:
The season of holiday giving is right around the corner and many of us are looking for unique gift ideas. Rather than doing another online purchase from a big, faceless corporation, why not consider some of these incredible local options instead.
The gift of outdoor recreation
Sunrise Corner is known for amazing outdoor recreation that the adventurer in your life would love to experience. The Southeast Sno-Riders, Voyageur Trails Grooming Association and Woodridge ATV Sandhogs all offer memberships. For a non-motorized option of cross-country skiing on groomed trails in Sandilands Provincial Forest, check out day or season passes for individuals or families at Sandilands Ski Club.
The gift of shopping local
There are many local retail businesses and service providers that offer gift cards in a variety of denominations. Your gift of shopping local benefits more than just the receiver, it’s also a gift for the local business owner. Ask your community grocery store, variety store, personal services salon (hair, nails, massages, etc.), restaurant, or automotive repair shop if they offer gift certificates. Search our business directory for contact info. For a unique tourism experience, check out Farm, Fibre, Food & Friends through Green Pastures Farm in Gardenton.
The gift of community support (and a tax receipt)
Got someone on your list who has everything? Why not make a donation on their behalf to one of the many local registered charities doing amazing work in our region. Your gift donation could support food banks in Vita or Sprague, the Vita Healing Garden, the South East Community Services Co-op assisted living facility through a donation to East Borderland Community Housing, or the Sprague & District Historical Museum among others.
The gift of business connection
If you’ve got an entrepreneur on your Christmas shopping list list, why not give them the gift of local networking and professional development with membership in the Piney Regional Chamber of Commerce. They will benefit from learning skills to help build their business, connecting with other local businesses, and contributing back to the community.
As 2023 comes to a festive close, the board and staff of Sunrise Corner wish you an amazing holiday season with family and friends. Cheers to a healthy and prosperous 2024.
