The RM of Piney is located in the southeastern corner of the Province of Manitoba and encompasses an area approximately 2,434 square kilometers. The RM consists of 12 communities with a total population of around 1,826 people. The principal industries in the area are agriculture, peat moss harvesting and forestry.

Applications are being accepted by the RM of Piney for the term position of Field Survey Technician with an anticipated start date of April 27, 2026.

Summary of Responsibilities:

The Field Survey Technician will support the RM’s Public Works operations by carrying out field surveying tasks, collecting and organizing municipal asset data, and contributing to drainage and water management initiatives. This position requires a high level of independence, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage daily work priorities with minimal supervision.

Duties:

• Conduct field surveying work, including data collection, layout, and verification for municipal infrastructure projects.
•Prioritize and complete summer surveying projects as assigned by the Public Works Supervisor.
• Oversee municipal drainage maintenance activities and assist in identifying required improvements.
• Supervise contractors on-site to ensure work is performed to municipal standards.
• Assist with reviewing quotes, invoices, and contractor submissions for accuracy and completeness.
• Plot survey data and prepare related documentation, files, and maps.
• Collect asset management data, including condition assessments, GPS coordinates, and infrastructure details.
•Perform other related duties as assigned by the Public Works Supervisor.

Qualifications:

• Currently enrolled or completed a degree or diploma program related to Geomatics, Surveying, Geography, or Civil Engineering.
• A strong understanding of field surveying methods and the ability to accurately plot and interpret survey data.
• Valid Class 5 (non-restricted) driver’s license.
• Ability to work independently and manage workload and schedule effectively.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate with staff, contractors, and the public.
• Ability and willingness to travel regularly within the RM for fieldwork.
• Clear criminal record check and driver’s abstract.
