April 2024 Economic Development Update:

In the past several years, Sunrise Corner has been gaining attention as a desirable location to live for an incredible rural quality of life. Employment opportunities are a key consideration for youth to remain in the region and for working adults to move here. The upcoming Green Career Symposium will provide options to help make that dream a reality.

Sunrise Corner Economic Development is excited to be a partner in the 2024 Green Career Symposium being hosted at the Vita Community Hall on Tuesday April 16, 2024. The event is spearheaded by the Piney Regional Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with the RMs of Piney and Stuartburn and Borderland School Division. The event will run all day with 9:30am to 3:30pm reserved for grade 7-12 students of Ross L Gray and Shevchenko School. The rest of the community is invited to attend from 3:30pm to 5:30pm when the Symposium will be open to the public.

This year’s “green” event will share how local job opportunities can contribute to environmental sustainability and climate change mitigation. The contributions can be as simple as working from home to reduce greenhouse gas emissions or as complex as developing new technologies to capture carbon, and anything in between. We have invited a broad spectrum of government organizations, large corporations with local operations, and small businesses to share career options that allow people to make a good living right here in our communities – with a focus on environmental sustainability.

From a youth perspective, this free event will help prepare young people for success following their high school years through exploring summer jobs and career opportunities in a variety of fields with a highlight on the environment. They will also come to realize that this is a place where young adults can stay to work or that they can return home after post-secondary education to start their careers or businesses and raise families knowing that it’s an environmentally sustainable way to build a life. All attendees will learn how businesses and careers are changing and adapting to climate change.

Thank you to our sponsors RM of Piney, Piney Regional Chamber of Commerce, PremierTech Horticulture, Seine Rat Roseau Watershed District, Evolve Energy Inc., Buffalo Point First Nation, Access Credit Union and RM of Stuartburn. Your support is appreciated!

We look forward to seeing you there.
