May 2026 Economic Development Update:
Did you know that Spring 2026 marks 10 years since Sunrise Corner’s first strategic plan, which was originally focused on tourism development? That early vision recognized the region’s natural assets and visitor potential as key drivers of growth. In 2019, the Piney Stuartburn Economic Development Board took an important next step – expanding the mandate to include economic development and community development. This evolution created a more holistic approach, ensuring that growth efforts support not only visitors, but also businesses, residents, and volunteers in a meaningful and sustainable way.
For business owners, this integrated strategy has created a stronger, more supportive environment to start, grow, and sustain operations. Strategic efforts such as targeted marketing, business attraction initiatives, and succession planning have helped generate new opportunities while ensuring existing businesses remain viable for the long term. Entrepreneurs benefit from improved visibility through local directories and promotional campaigns, while partnerships with organizations like the Piney Regional Chamber of Commerce provide access to networking, training, and cost-saving programs. These combined efforts contribute to a resilient local economy where businesses can innovate and thrive.
Investment in housing development, infrastructure, and services is helping to meet evolving needs for current and future residents while maintaining affordability and accessibility, when compared to larger urban centres. At the same time, the emphasis on community development – through initiatives like volunteer-driven events, recreation programming, and community spaces – strengthens social connections and enhances overall well-being. This balance ensures that growth does not come at the expense of the close-knit, welcoming lifestyle that defines rural living in Sunrise Corner.
Volunteers play a vital role in bringing this vision to life contributing their time and energy to foster a strong community spirit. Sunrise Corner supports these efforts through event marketing, grant-writing workshops, and promoting funding and training opportunities. All these efforts combine to enrich the cultural fabric of our region and support the local economy by attracting visitors and encouraging local spending.
At its core, Sunrise Corner’s success lies in its progressive outlook – one that embraces sustainable growth while protecting an exceptional rural quality of life. By aligning economic, tourism, and community priorities, the region is building a future that is not only prosperous, but also deeply connected to the values and lifestyle that make it special.
