Job Description
This position works with other staff to plan and conduct programs and activities. A Child Care Assistant is responsible for assisting the Early Childhood Educator within the child care program.
Qualifications and Experience:
Desire and ability to work as part of a team or independently with little supervision
Previous experience working with children
Strong problem solving, decision making and critical thinking skills
Ability to communicate well in both written and oral English
Strong work ethic with superior organizational and time management skills
Current CPR training and First Aid Certificate
Demonstrated use of innovation and creativity in the workplace
Clear child abuse records check
Clear criminal records check
Must be in good health and fit to work in a child care centre
Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information seen or heard
Responsibilities and Duties:
Diaper and feed children as required
Guide children in development of activities of daily living
Prepare and serve nutritious snacks and assist during lunch and snack time
Observe children on a regular basis and report observations to director
Maintain adherence to all company policies and procedures, including safety requirements
Maintain a safe and healthy environment for children and to create a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere
Organize and participate in daily activities
Interact with children and play at their level
Responsible for children’s health, safety and physical needs
Perform housekeeping duties such as laundry, cleaning and dishwashing
Ensure that children are supervised at all times
Work cooperatively and effectively as a team member by communicating and contributing information
Support children’s emotional and social development, encouraging understanding of others and positive self-concepts
Sanitize toys and play equipment on a daily basis
Other duties as assigned
